1. Clean Fill History
This is the most important factor.
You want used bags that previously held:
- Packaged food (like wrapped candy or boxed dry goods)
- Animal feed or mineral mixes
- Resins or pellets
- Regrind or other inert materials
Avoid any bag that previously carried:
- Chemicals
- Fertilizer
- Powders
- Wet or perishable goods
These leave behind residue — which can compromise your current load or get you rejected by customers.
2. No Tears, Rips, or UV Damage
Inspect for:
- Frayed loops
- Torn sidewalls
- Brittle texture (a sign of sun exposure)
- Seam separation or missing stitching
Even if the bag “looks okay,” UV exposure weakens the fibers.
That’s why we only deal with indoor-stored, palletized, baled bags.
We reject bags that have been weathered or mishandled. You should too.
3. Right Size and Style for Your Application
Used bags don’t always come in perfect, uniform specs — but you still need to get close.
Know what works for you:
- Common footprint sizes: 35x35x46, 40x40x65, 36x36x60
- Fill types: duffle top, spout top, or plain open
- Discharge: flat bottom vs. spout bottom
- Stack height: will it fit your racking or trailers?
Not sure? Call or Text us at 832.400.1394 and we’ll match you to the closest fit.
4. Load Rating and Strength
Most used bags are originally rated for:
- Safe Working Load (SWL): 2,000 to 3,000 lbs
- Safety Factor: 5:1 or 6:1
That’s more than enough for:
- Regrind
- Crumb rubber
- Feed
- Scrap
- Minerals
- Agricultural products
You don’t need a new bag to move bulk.
You need one that won’t break.
5. Baled, Palletized, and Load-Ready
Used bags should be:
- Tightly baled for easy storage
- Wrapped and stacked on pallets
- Grouped by size and style
- Free from loose debris, dust, or residue
This makes them forklift ready, easier to count, and safer to receive.
Pro tip: A clean bale tells you a lot about how a seller handles inventory.
6. Photos of Actual Inventory
Always ask for photos.
Any reputable supplier will be happy to send you pictures of:
- The exact bags you’re getting
- How they’re packaged and baled
- Stitching, tops, bottoms, and loops
- Labels or print markings
If a seller can’t (or won’t) provide that? Move on.
We include photos with every quote — so you know exactly what’s coming.
7. Consistent Sizing Within the Pallet
Don’t get Frankenstein loads.
A bad supplier might give you 6 different styles on a pallet. That causes:
- Loading issues
- Operational delays
- Worker confusion
- Failed stacking or flow
At CPP, we sell uniform pallets of same-size, same-style bags. Always.
8. No Bottom Spout (Unless You Need It)
For many buyers, a bottom discharge spout is more risk than it’s worth.
Spouts:
- Tear more easily
- Get caught on equipment
- Can compromise stacking or sealing
If you don’t need it?
Ask for a flat or sewn bottom.
Duffle top with flat bottom is the most versatile spec.
9. Don’t Pay for Used Like It’s New
Used bags save you money — but only if you get the pricing right.
Current baseline pricing (truckload quantities):
- $5.00 per bag (40x40x65, 34x41x63 Circular, Spout, Spout SWL 2300 $3.50 each, Peanut Bags)
- Pallet pricing available for test orders (slightly higher)
- Bulk discounts for 2+ FTL orders
Compare that to $10–$15 for new?
You could be cutting packaging costs in half or more.
10. Check for Return or Claim Policy
Used bags = no warranty.
They’re sold as-is.
And that’s fair — because you’re getting steep discounts.
But that doesn’t mean quality should slide.
Work with a supplier (like us) that stands behind their process.
We send photos.
We only source from clean, traceable fill streams.
We’ll never ship junk.
