Measuring a box correctly ensures you get a liner that fits snugly and functions the way it should.
Follow these simple steps to get accurate measurements:
1. Measure the Length
- Place the box on a flat surface.
- Measure the longest side of the base from inside wall to inside wall.
- Record this as the length.
2. Measure the Width
- Measure the shorter side of the base, again from inside wall to inside wall.
- Record this as the width.
3. Measure the Height (or Depth)
- Measure from the bottom inside surface of the box straight up to the top edge.
- Record this as the height or depth.
4. Add Allowance for Overhang (If Needed)
If your liner needs to fold over the edges of the box:
- Add 2–6 inches (depending on how much overhang you want) to the height measurement.
5. Double-Check Interior Dimensions
- Always measure the inside of the box, not the exterior.
- Measure twice to ensure accuracy.
Example
If a box measures:
- 18″ (L)
- 12″ (W)
- 10″ (H)
And you want a 4″ overhang:
- Liner size = 18″ × 12″ × 14″
